Somehow I instinctually knew this but no one articulated it to me. I have worked in the Japanese cultural sector, I have Japanese colleagues, and my mom taught me how to use hashi and some manners because her grandmother traded childcare duties with a Japanese lady every other day, but it's funny with Japanese culture what you sort of pick up by osmosis.
