Oof. I really wish you’d sued him for malpractice, but yes, thank God he’s retired. And also thank God for that Indian doctor who saved your life. I’m mostly better now, and I never really purged, but I was on and off anorexic for about a decade. I still fear scales. I think at my worst I was still somewhere between 50 and 55 kg which is not terrible. But I remember how my chest and back just ached all the time. I was lucky. In my case it was just my bones becoming brittle as my body cannibalised them rather than cardiac tissue death or the like. Bones can mend. One’s heart cannot.

I’m just so angry with how that doctor treated you. It sounds like he didn’t listen to you at all. What does he think happens to people who are starving? And it sounds like it’s a factor of treatment, but women are more likely to die from heart attacks than men. Take care of yourself. And stick with the doctors who take your pain seriously.
