A Move Straight out of the Authoritarian Playbook

Eight years ago while campaigning a “protester” tried to rush onto the stage as Trump was giving one of his unhinged Nuremburg rally style rants. He visibly panicked and was only prevented from bolting off the stage by one of his body guards. In that instance he was actually in no danger. Yes, someone was acting even more foolish than him if that’s possible, but their intentions did not involve bodily harm to Donnie himself.

Still of Trump panicking at the slightest hint of a threat. (video may be viewed in full here)

Now, of course fear is a very normal human reaction and Trump is neither psychic nor cognitively blessed so I actually do not fault him for panicking in this instance. I think he had a rather abnormally big reaction, but I also hate his guts and so this is just additional proof to me that he’s a coward.

But contrast his reaction in 2016 to a protestor to his reaction this time in what is now being called an assassination attempt. While in 2016 he utterly panicked and wasn’t really able to get himself back together in this instance he almost knew the shot was coming and immediately started posing for pictures. And they’re really good pictures too. Obviously, he looks like the reanimated corpse of Pope Alexander VI…
